I'm exhausted. It's been a rather eventful weekend and now all I want to do is sleep. Having Milla over was a blast, though. And the Rajaton gig yesterday was lovely! Also, Super Size Me has now been seen. And we have now also ventured Amarillo as a place to eat (contrasting to Amarillo as a place to drink).

I love nachos.
And amaretto.
And English cider that actually tastes like apple.
And all the goodness I consumed yesterday.

During the weekend I've also lost my keys (dropped them when leaving the bus) and my calendar (forgot it when leaving the pizza place). I hardly ever lose anything except at home, so it's been weird. Luckily, I did get both back immediately. I managed to accidentally catch the bus when it was coming back from Utra and they phoned me from the pizza place saying that my calendar was waiting for me there. A proof that it might actually be beneficial to put your phone number to your belongings.

But I hav to say that people here are nicer than back home. I can't really imagine anyone getting two lost thingies back within the same weekend down there. Really.

Rajaton, Super Size Me, good food, the rented DVDs (Shrek2 & Stepford Wives), me losing stuff or Milla are not the big news this time, though.

My. Lord.

I got a new place!
I am actually moving in the end of March!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

It's a shared apartment and it was divine (and cheap too!). Plus the girl who already lives there seemed really nice. I was sure I wouldn't get it, I never do, but after some two hours she phoned me and said that she'd decided I'd get it. Me! I cannot believe it. I just jumped around the room and made funny squeeing sounds, I was (and am) really that happy.

I still haven't discovered one down side about that apartment. Not one. I'm sure there will be some, but they cannot be huge. All the basic stuff is correct (location, condition, size, price, flat mate), all the other stuff is just minor and I can cope with minor things. Living with 18 other people in Lahti taught be some flexibility.

Luckily I have lots of things to do for the next four weeks or I'd go nuts just waiting for the move.

AAAAAAA! ME!
Heard about this on Thursday and the news is still sinking in. And it will be for the next month, I am sure.

I'm feeling nasty. And I do mean incredibly bad. Stupid flu. First proper one of the winter and it's killing me not-so-slowly. I've been taking such an amount of medicines for the past few days I'm fearing they'll start to have sedating effects. Eeee..

This is just really not the time for me to be sick. Too many things going on. And I'm feeling stressed out enough already, I really wouldn't want to add a killer headache, sore throat, endless cough and constant want to vomit to it. Rrraaa!

However, this does make me realise how common I am. My flu, unlike the one of Michael Jackson's, hasn't made it to any news yet.

Har.

Moreover, I have also developed habit of listening to sappy love ballads whenever I can. Why? Where the hell did it come from? And here I was thinking I'd perfectly settled to my cynical life of a nun completely forgetting I once though romance was cool. Apparently not. But whatever. As long as I don't start wearing the pink lip gloss again, I'm not going to worry too much.

Milla's coming here on Thursday and I've decided not to do any school things while she's here, save some revising for the exam on Thursday and actually going to the darned exam on Friday. For a few days it'll just be relaxing. Rajaton gig, Super Size Me and so on. It'll do me good, I think. Once again I've started to feel guilty whenever I'm not doing school things. Combined with the fact that what I really need is rest to make this flu go away, it's not really good, is it?

My poor throat. Due to the fact that I already lost my voice on Saturday night because excessive shouting has made this even more painful than usual.

Random: Simon Frith is a moron of the 80s.
He might be a good critic, but good lord, his opinions are from the 19th century. I find it half funny, though. The Sound Effects book, which started as a painfully boring piece of old information, has now turned into a somewhat entertaining piece of writing. Not that I ever want to touch it again after this week. But still. My inner feminist is furious. :)

It really isn't my day today. Baerh. I can't concentare on anything and everything's been all kablooey. Only two concrete events I can complain about but it could be safely generalised that it has not been one of my best days ever.

The events? Minor, but most annoying.

I was supposed to go to the pub quiz and I actually managed to get as far as Kerubi - only to tell the two that I wasn't feeling too well - actually I was feeling like shit - and it had got worse on the bus and that I had to take the next bus home.

And then I missed the Ark on Telvis. I thought they hadn't appeared yet and sat patiently waiting through the most horrendous award show. It was over half way through until dad kindly informed me via text message that the Ark had opened the whole thing. Why? Where was I? What for?

Bollocks.

I really would've wanted to see if my little Leari is growing his lovely hair back again. Sigh.

Today I 'ave been mostly craving... dates. As in the fruit. And the fruit in dried form. I was just feeling so bad when I finally got out of the bus that I really didn't want to go to Siwa to buy any. I've been trying to tell myself that they're so sweet I could've only eaten one or two anyway. But I still really, really want some. Aaaa! Maybe tomorrow.

Finally finished the ham pie I made for Kassu. And tomorrow, finally, I can eat something else. Woo.

Embarrassed confession: I'm starting to get hooked on America's Next Top Model, whichever season happens to be on the Finnish telly right now. Nooo! But really. The TV is so full of crap nowadays that finding good shows is practically impossible. Therefore you need to select your weekly telly dose from bad and/or mortifying shows, detective series and Friends reruns. What am I watching now? Jake 2.0, the L Word, America's Next Top Model, Tru Calling, Without a Trace, Boomstown, American Idol.. And Friends reruns.

Man. That's a lot of telly. And apart from the American Idol and two days of Friends reruns, they're all airing on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. No wonder life seems busy those days. They're also the only days in a week I have school besides Thursday's one lecture. Hm. My week's twisted.

To answer Suvi's questions..

1. Who invented the piano tie in the 1980s, and how did it affect you?
The paino tie was invented by Mugatu and it did not affect me greatly apart from the ever-growing respect I have for him. So there.

2. What do Jopi's hair and a toilet seat have in common?
So, I cheated. I didn't remember anything except that it once was hilarious. But: their share the same molecular formula.

3. If you were to become a politician, what would be the main theme in your campaign?
Joensuu to Southern Finland! All calories away from chocolate - taste and consistency stays the same!

4. How does it feel to be loved by Juhalahti?
All warm and fuzzy inside, you know.

I don't get it. I've been sleeping a lot lately. Not too much but enough. And still I have the hugest bags under my eyes. Why? Why won't they go away?? Bloody annoying.

Took Kassu to the train yesterday at noon and was half dead afterwards. It was a good weekend but since she's still so young, she needs attention non-stop. I was able to handle it until yesterday but had she stayed one day longer, I probably would have snapped at some point. But yeah. We had fun. Kassu got obsessed with New Kids on the Block because she thought they were awful and wanted to listen to them all the time. Strange girl.

We also went shopping.. poor me! Kassu's probably the most demandin shopper I've ever been shopping with, apart from Johanna A., naturally. But we managed to get her a shirt, CD, gloves and some underwear and thus she was happy.

Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events was a good choice after the shopping, we both liked it. Probably for different reason, though. But it's not really the point, is it? In my opinion, the voice over was brilliant. <3 I honestly could listen to Jude Law reading anything for hours, there's something in the way that he speaks that I really, really, really like.

Complaint about the film: why did they have to kill off Billy Connolly's character so early on? RRAAAAA!

Thursday night was good, too. I never would've thought me and Virpi had so many things to talk about. It was pretty relaxing, just sit there and sip wine (and eat cheeeeese) and talk about all things more or less of importance. So woo. She almost talked me over into going to Bepop tomorrow night, but I honestly don't know if I can afford it and if I'm up for it anyway.

Just remembered I haven't read the Virginia Woolf short story we're going through today in fiction3. Blast. Need to do it now. It's not very long (even for a short story, ho ho) if I remember correctly. It just have to skip some other things I was planning to do this morning. Like finisihing the CD cover or possibly reading for the rock history exam.

Reebee Garofalo has a bit broader views than most people. I found Backstreet Boys from his book of American rock'n'roll yesterday. Teehee.

(from suvi)

-ask me 4 questions.
-any 4, no matter how personal, private or random.
-i have to answer them honestly. I have to answer them all.
-in turn, you post this message in your own journal and you have to answer the questions that are asked of you.

(ps. because this is my blog and i am me, i reserve the right not to answer a question i feel is pushing the limit - i don't blog everything either. mwa-ha-ha!)

For starters: Rika dear, if you noticed, the Grease Alias was practically the only one that worked for me. You had many more at least average ones. But I have to say that Shite Rings does lack.. poetry. :)

I'm so fed up with this darned machine. The strange noises come and go as they please. And just when you're about to forget them, here they come again.

I'm also fed up with living arrangement thingies. I'm not so convinced me and Reeta ought to be looking for an apartment together after all since we wouldn't be able to move until the beginning of April anyway and then there's only a bit over month left of the school year. And as she is probably getting the place she's been waiting for over a year in September or so, us moving in together just doesn't make any sense.

Have tried to find alternative ways to get my arse away from Rantakylä but a chance to do that hasn't really presented itself yet. I'm afraid I may have to surrender next year and take a loan. Noooo..

Boring Discovery:
The recent 69 Eyes hits kind of grow on you. With the old stuff I've always been able to tell from the first listening whether I like them or not. The stuff from the latests album I haven't really cared for, giggled at it occasionally at the most. And now I'm all "hey it's Lost Boys, woohoo!!". Argh.

And I cannot cope that I just used the quotative all.
Or the term "quotative all" for that matter.
Your language tends to develop into funny directions when you're actually studying it, let me tell you. But since I've now evidently used the effin' all quotative, no one can accuse me for being against language change. So ha.

For once I didn't forget Oliver's Twist is on telly on Wednesdays and even managed to watch it all the way through. The thought of today: I want to be Jamie Oliver. Er, no. I want to cook like Jamie Oliver. I am on my way. Poor Kassu will have to suffer my pasta carbonara experiment on Saturday. Teehee.

Sort of solved the HTML issue I had. Aleksi told me what I already knew: I had to do it table code instead of double frame. The double frame was silly to beging with but I was sort of fitting it to an old layout I already had and couldn't be bothered to change. But changing paid off, it looks a lot better now. Explorer is still showing some scheisse at the bottom that shouldn't be there and I have no idea how to get rid of it. But it's still a lot better.

Paula wasn't up for going out yesterday after all and after The Crappiest Day Ever, neither was I. So we skipped the Stardust Club again. Bollocks. I really would've wanted to go but yesterday really was pure hell. After being hysterical for some hours I decided I do not have to take the media culture research exam this month but that I can take some other exam (requiring less books) instead. After that, things started to look up a little, but all the distress, stress and tears had caused a headache that was so bad it prevented me from doing anything outside the flat again. Once more: bollocks.

But I stayed at home with my newly found best friends Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and all the peeps from C.S.I. Miami. Also watched other quality TV, like Miss Finland 2005 finale. Gah! And then I listened to various albums that do not mix well. --> What do HIM's Razorblade Romance and BSB's Millenium have in common? No guesses? Right. The track #7 on both albums send shibers down my spine.

From Rika's LJ:

1. YOUR PORN STAR NAME: (name of first pet + Street you live on): Pulla Verkkotie (ahem.. I have a feeling this might be faulty)

2. YOUR MOVIE STAR NAME: (Name of your favourite snack food + Grandfather's first name): Popcorn Niilo (or if we take his original first name, Popcorn Nikolai, which is way cooler)

3. YOUR FASHION DESIGNER NAME: (First word you see on your left + Favourite restaurant): Wilde Delizia

4. EXOTIC FOREIGNER ALIAS: (Favourite Spice + Last Vacation Spot): Pepper Tampere (not really a vacation but the last place I remember going to for longer than a day)

5. SOCIALITE ALIAS: (Silliest Childhood Nickname + Town Where You First Partied): Hilloturpa Karkkila

6. FLY GIRL ALIAS: (aka J.Lo) - (First Initial + First Two or Three Letters of your Last Name): H.La

7. ICON ALIAS: (Something Sweet Within Sight + Any Liquid in Kitchen): Orange Wine

8. DETECTIVE ALIAS: (Favourite Baby Animal + Where You Went to High School): Kitten Karkkila

9. BARFLY ALIAS: (Last Snack Food You Ate + Your Favourite Alcoholic Drink): Crisp Brown Ale

10. SOAP OPERA ALIAS: (Middle Name + Street Where You First Lived): Onerva Kumpeentie

11. ROCK STAR ALIAS: (Favourite Candy + Last Name Of Favourite Musician): Liquorise Williams

12. GREASE ALIAS: (Favourite Swear Word + Last Word of Favourite Movie): Bollocks Scissorhands :D

HELP! Anyone?

I have HTML issue I cannot solve. See. I made this frame that is inside an iframe, right? Right. The problem is, the right border jumps a few pixels to the right. I could live with that, but another thingie comes up with Internet Explorer (it's fine with Mozilla Firefox). The bottom frame isn't showing properly. Like this:

Why is this happening? What can be done to it? I'm so lost. And the website isn't really even my own project and it does have a deadline, which is approaching a bit faster than I should like.

I can't think of anything else I could try. And I haven't done frames in a long while and can't remember all the little tricks anymore. So. Wise ones, please, someone help me out here.

My computer's started to make this really weird purring sound lately and this morning I tried to do something about it. I am no Jake 2.0 but I could make the sound quiet down a little. Causing another strange sound, which is way more annoying than the first one. It's driving me nuts. I can hardly be in the room when the computer is on. It actually got so annoying it made me cry, I kid you not.

I can't take it. Why won't it be quiet??????????????

In non-computer related news:
Went to see Closer with Paula today. It's wonderous that someone has managed to make such a version of that eternal story that it actually seemed new. A skill. But I don't know if I really liked the film. Jude Law is still extremely pretty to look at and even bigger pleasure to listen to, so I don't mind.

I'm so stressed out it's not even near funny.

Rika's fangirling because of Ben McKenzie, which amuses me greatly. He's the main reason I'm not watching O.C. Well, him and Peter Gallagher equally. :D

But really. Nyaaagh. :)

My fangirling moment: I was watching A Night Out With Robbie Williams today, you know the Albert Hall concert. Haven't watched it since it was first on telly in the UK (that would be November 2001, dears).
Robbie: *makes a stupid face*
Hanna: Squeeeeee!

I started knitting a hat yesterday. I might knit socks when I finish it. Whee.

I so want to see Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events! Sure, the trailer annoys me in several ways. For example, it looks like a Tim Burton film, which it isn't, and there's even the theme of Edward Scissorhands playing in the background. Also, the "Jim Carrey, Jim Carrey... and Jim Carrey" part somewhat bugs me. But still. I so want to see it. The Jude Law voice over is just way too good. And even with all the Jim Carreys, it seems like a good film. Plus Billy Connolly. Bonus.

I wonder if Kassu would like to see it when she comes over next week. Hmm, hmm.

Finished my History of English project #1 today even though I don't have to hand it in for another week. I'm on the roll! I feel like finishing my essay now as well. But I'm still thinking of leaving it for the weekend so I wouldn't get thoroughly bored..
